Maria Sahonic's Love Story August 3rd, 2010
We have a high functioning adult son with autism. My husband shares his love for & with my son as he drives him to ITT 95mi each way so that my son gets his degree in video game design. My husband’s labor of love extends much more than that since he also has been my caregiver for the last 3yrs (I’ve had 4 back surgeries in the last 2yrs). My son will complete his Bachelor’s degree next year and that will end my husband’s 30,000mi a year commute.
I’m a military & civilian advocate for Special Needs children, ensuring that their educational needs are met. I encourage and train parents on how to receive services for their children. I enjoy my volunteer work because I can share my love over the phone, on physically painful days. I try to go to as many education plans meetings as I can. The great thing about my volunteer work is that I can also share Jesus with them and always strive for them to see Jesus in me. The Lord has been merciful to my family & I, and I hope that my son inspires others to follow their dreams. Blessings to all!
